It looks like the metal world has lost another soul today. Bassist and vocalist for Black Tusk, Jonathan Athon, as well as his girlfriend, were involved in a motorcycle accident yesterday. The frontman had been driving when an 85 year old man ran a stop sign, causing Athon to crash directly into the side of the vehicle. He was taken to the hospital and placed into an induced coma, while his girlfriend managed to escape life-threatening injury. However, it was discovered that Athon had permanent and irreparable brain damage, and the decision was made to take him off of life support.
It’s an absolute shame that someone so young had to die in such a tragic way, and I think it’s proof positive of the need to test older drivers to make sure they’re still capable of driving safely. This kind of accident is all too common among older drivers, and all it takes is a small lapse like this to end someone’s life. May Jonathan rest in peace, and my condolences go out to his family and friends today.
